Mateja Virant Ko\u0161ak<\/strong> is a girl from Zasava. Born and raised in Trbovlje, she has been at home in Hrastnik for the last few years and works in Zagorje ob Savi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a creative person at heart who likes to get carried away, she is grateful in her own way for her clerical profession with its numbers, which reminds her again and again of the solid ground beneath her feet. But the real satisfaction undoubtedly comes from her world of fancy words or some other artistic expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is convinced that Zasavje, alongside the edgy and grey history of the workers and the black history of the miners, hides a good measure of colourful magic that calls out to be performed. So she wrote seven fairy-tale stories about Zasavje in rhyme. She writes about the time of the medieval counts, about the perkamdel, about mythological heroes and, of course, our chimney ...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim is to introduce children to the culture of Zasavje, to show them our history and to instil pride in our places. Let them get to know this rainbow of our roots and colourful cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the Catapult works Publisher 5KA<\/strong><\/a>, which supports Slovenian authors, we quickly found a cooperation. \"There are stories that deserve to last forever,\"<\/strong> is the slogan of the 5KA Publishing House, run by a Slovenian writer, author of several bestselling books, Petra \u0160karja<\/strong>. Matej's stories surely deserve to live forever. What would a nation be without culture, what would a man be without roots? That is why we are all the more eager to support a story like Mateja's.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It seemed to me that we were on the same page,\" Mateja comments on the collaboration, \"Katapult supports 'our', appreciates 'our', and I do the same with this book and in general. Katapult is already quite a brand in our valley, so I was happy that they recognised the potential in the story of the 7 fairy tales of Zasava.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book is enriched with illustrations\u00a0Polonce Lebar Grmek<\/strong>, designed by\u00a0Maurice Zalaznik<\/strong>. Together with Matej, they have created a really beautiful book, both in content and appearance. It has just come from the printers and can be ordered on the Zalozba5ka.com website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want this book not to remain a one-day fad, but to become something lasting. May generations and generations after us read these stories of Zasavje and tell them to each other on winter evenings. In this way, our culture will be preserved in a pleasant fairy-tale way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
